And, so It js^ But Charlotte Harbor Bay had various names. The Bay of the Holy Spirit was in some documents left by the crew of the Ponce de Leon expedition. Bahia Honda -- or Deep Bay - was the name from 1513 to 1521. Menendez, In 1566, named It San Antone Harbor, the Christian name given by him to the sister of the Indian Chief Carlos. Some records during 1567 refer to Charlotte Harbor as the Bay de Tampa. The present name came In 1769 from a Dutch surveyor, Capt. Bernard Romans, who probably named It for Princess Charlotte, Queen of King George III, who then occupied the English throne.
