The Sandlin house was built in 1890 by early settlers James Sandlin and his wife, Mary Seward Sandlin. James Sandlin was a member of the first city council of Punta Gorda and later served as mayor. The house is sited at 401 W. Retta Esplanade in the Punta Gorda Historic District.
